The Concept

Connected with the world,
anchored in Europe,
and rooted in Basel.

uptownBasel is an international centre of excellence for Industry 4.0. On the historic Schoren site in Arlesheim, near Basel, we are creating a development and production location that will be home to selected technology companies and other organisations.

The focus is on industrial manufacturing, healthcare and logistics, as well as digitalisation as a horizontal function. The subsidiary QuantumBasel operates, Switzerland’s first commercially usable quantum computer hub, for this purpose. As a platform for connected companies, uptownBasel aims to drive knowledge transfer between sectors and disciplines. By introducing companies to potential partners, it will help to bring embryonic ideas to life in the fields of robotics, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, future mobility and agile working.

uptownBasel has been made possible through the private ownership of the Monique and Thomas Staehelin family, and is being implemented by Fankhauser Arealentwicklungen.

Board Member Dr. Thomas Staehelin explains the idea behind uptownBasel.
